West Coast Championship Tournament

The (first ever!) West Coast Championship Tournament for High School Teams is taking place on Saturday, March 27 on Discord. This competition uses STASH for Competitive and NAQT IS-201 for Standard. There is no Novice Division; Novice teams are discouraged from playing this event. We are not placing a field cap on either division for the time being. Middle School teams cannot compete at this event (sorry).

We are restricting entrance in the Competitive Division to those teams that have either qualified for HSNCT/NSC or are applying for a wild card position to those competitions. Teams that are denied a wildcard bid will be asked to play in Standard (we’ll be in touch with such teams). Please let us know if you are unsure which division is best for you so that we can assist you.

The entry fee is $75 per team with a $30 discount per staffer provided. We are accepting payment via Venmo, PayPal, or Check; please contact us for details.

Registration (for both divisions) takes place on the NAQT website here => https://www.naqt.com/registration/field … t_id=12256

Results from Cal Cup #4

Congratulations to Guilder A for winning the Competitive Division, to Gunn for winning the Standard Division, and to Challenger-Strawberry Park A for winning the Novice Division at Cal Cup #4! Thank you to all of the players, coaches, parents, and staff for making the ninth year of Cal Cup a success!

Stats/results are here. Novice-only results are also listed on the NAQT website here.

Update on Cal Cup #4 Novice Division

We have decided to use NAQT IS-194A for the Novice Division at Cal Cup #4 as we feel that the DART set would provide too much of a challenge for Novice teams. We will still use DART for Standard and Competitive.

Even though we are using an NAQT set for Novice we are not asking teams to register via NAQT website; teams are still asked to register via the Google form (if you have not already done so).

We will post the field on Monday, February 1; we will ask for rosters at that time. Schools are encouraged to register before that time so as to increase their chance of avoiding any waitlist.

Cal Cup #4 Registration is now open

Cal Cup #4 is taking place on Saturday, February 13 on Discord. We will be using the DART set for all three divisions; novice teams should be aware that this set is a medium-difficulty high school set and will be harder in difficulty than the set we used at Cal Cup #3.

Entry fee information is the same as the previous Cal Cup tournaments.
We will post the field on Monday, February 1; We will ask for rosters at that time.

Sacramento Winter HS Tournament

This competition will take place on Saturday, January 9 on Discord. We are using NAQT IS-195 for the Varsity Division and IS-198A for the JV Division.

The field cap, for now, is 12 for Varsity and 8 for JV. We are asking that middle school teams not play, sorry.

The entry fee is $60 per team with a $20 discount per staff provided. The minimum entry fee is $20 per team.

Bay Area teams and schools from outside NorCal may compete but must wait until Wednesday, December 30 at 12 noon (pacific) in order to register, to allow Sacramento schools the opportunity to register first.

Cal Cup #3 Registration is now open

Cal Cup #3 is taking place on Saturday, January 16 on Discord. We will be using Saturnalia for Competitive, RAFT II for Standard, and ERIS for Novice. We will implement the same priority list that we did at Cal Cup #2. Registration becomes first-come, first-serve on Tuesday, January 4; we will post the field and ask for rosters on that date. The field cap, for now, is 16 for each division. Entry fee information remains the same.
Churchill, Lowell, and Vista Del Lago have already heard the ERIS set and thus are ineligible to compete in the Novice Division at this tournament (but may compete in the other divisions).
Competitive teams should be aware that Saturnalia is a bit harder than a typical, regular-difficulty high school set.

Unfortunately, we received numerous allegations of cheating on Saturday; we will be addressing that subject in another email soon.

Cal Cup 2 Field List/Rosters

Field: The list of teams can be found here; we have 2 teams on the Competitive waitlist, 8 teams on the Standard waitlist, and 16 teams on the Novice waitlist. Check the field periodically for updates. Let us know ASAP if you plan to drop!

Rosters: Teams in the field are asked to provide a roster here; waitlist teams do not have to provide a roster until they are promoted into the field. Any subsequent roster updates can be emailed to us (californiacupquizbowl@gmail.com)
