Hillview Middle School Tournament Results

Congratulations to BASIS Silicon Valley (Varsity) and Harker A (Jv), champions of yesterday’s middle school tournament at Hillview! My thanks to our host, Sue Kayton, and to all of the staffers who made this tournament possible.

NAQT State Tournament (April 7) at Stanford

The Northern California Quiz Bowl Alliance and Berkeley Quiz Bowl are pleased to announce that Stanford will host the 2018 NAQT Northern California State Championship on Saturday, April 17, 2018

Location: This tournament will take place at Stanford; games will take place in Huang and Old Union.

Questions: We will be using the 2018 NAQT SCT Division II set.

Eligibility: All high schools (public, private, charter, religious, homeschool, etc.) are eligible to play in this event.

Schools are encouraged to enter multiple teams, but please note that players must play for the same team throughout the tournament.

Fees:

Base fee: $80 per team

$10 discount per working buzzer system (must accommodate at least eight players)

$20 discount per staffer

$20 discount: teams that travel 100 or more miles one-way (distance measured from your high school to Stanford by Google Maps)

Payment will be taken at check-in on April 7. Please make checks out to “Quiz Bowl Club.”

Sacramento Spring MS Tournament Results

Congratulations to Churchill A for winning the Varsity Division and to Kittredge for winning the JV Division at the Sacramento Spring MS Tournament! A big thank you to the volunteers for your help and to Mr. Gutierrez, Mr. Anderson, and Sylvan for hosting.

This school year we ran 3 MS tournaments in the Sacramento area; next school year it is likely that we will run 4.

Hillview Middle School Tournament

The Northern California Quiz Bowl Alliance and Hillview Middle School are pleased to announce that Hillview will host a middle school quizbowl tournament on Saturday, March 24, 2018.

Location: This tournament will take place at Hillview Middle School, 1100 Elder Avenue, Menlo Park, California.

Questions: We will be using NAQT Middle School Series #26. [b]This is the same set used at the March 17 Sacramento Tournament so schools that played there will not be able to play at Hillview and vice-versa.[/b] (For practice material similar to the questions we will use at the tournament, please consider the NAQT New Middle School Package.)

The top 15% of teams will qualify for the 2018 NAQT Middle School National Championship Tournament, to be held in Chicago, Illinois on May 12-13, 2018.

Eligibility: All middle schools (public, private, charter, religious, homeschool, etc.) are eligible to play in this event. This tournament is open to any players who have not yet completed 8th grade, though the questions are targeted at 7th and 8th graders.

Schools are encouraged to enter multiple teams, but please note that players must play for the same team throughout the tournament.

Fees:

Base fee: $60 per team

-$30 new to quizbowl (your school played no tournaments before February 1, 2018)

-$10 working buzzer system (must accommodate at least eight players)

-$10 experienced moderator

(minimum fee of $0)

Teams from Menlo Park public schools play for free.

Payment will be taken at check-in on March 24th.

Cal Cup #4 / Overall Results

Congratulations to Crystal Springs for winning the Competitive Division, to Saratoga B for winning the Standard Division, and to Stratford-Sunnyvale for winning the Novice Division at Cal Cup #4!

Cal Cup #4 Registration

Cal Cup #4 is taking place on Saturday, March 3 at Bellarmine College Prep in San Jose (teams and staff are asked to not park in the Liccardo Parking Lot). Thursday (Mar 1) is the last day to register.

For this competition we are reserving spots in the field for the teams that purchased the package. Please let us know if your team purchased the package but your team is not listed here.

Cal Cup #3 Results

Fresno HS Tournament (March 10)

The Northern California Quiz Bowl Alliance and Fresno State are pleased to announce that Fresno State will host the first Fresno Quiz Bowl Tournament for High School Teams on Saturday, March 10, 2018.

Location: This tournament will take place at California State University, Fresno. Check-in will begin at 9:00AM, we will have a lunch break in the early afternoon, and we hope to finish by 4:00PM. We will have a field cap of 12 teams.

Questions: We will be using NAQT IS-173A.

The top 15% of teams will qualify for the 2018 NAQT High School National Championship Tournament, to be held in Atlanta in May.

Eligibility: All high schools (public, private, charter, religious, homeschool, etc.) are eligible to play in this event.

Schools are encouraged to enter multiple teams, but please note that players must play for the same team throughout the tournament.

Base fee: $50 per team

-$10 for second and subsequent teams
